My reason for freezin'...

The Farmington Penguin Plunge raises funds for Special Olympics Connecticut' s year-round programs of sports training and athletic competition for people with intellectual disabilities.

I don't have to explain why I do what I do. My younger brother, Brent, means the world to me- how could you not love his smile? He is my everything and the reason why I am a teacher and why I live my life the way I do. Every day he reminds me that life isn't so bad.

Special Olympics has continued to play an integral role in the life of my younger brother. It has provided him opportunities to let his athleticism flourish. Brent is such a talented athlete and without Special Olympics he wouldn't have the opportunity to show off his skills!

I'm thrilled at the warm reception this activity has brought to Canterbury. Every year students begin asking in September what the plan is for the Plunge. The support from students and faculty is tremendous. This year, once again, I will be braving the waters in Farmington with my students. We are hoping for a larger turn out than the 25 students I had last year. I'm also hoping to plunge with two more faculty members- which will be a fun addition!

This is our 6th year of plunging. Our first year we won the award for the school who raised the most money and I would once again like to bring home that honor. Last year I was recognized as the person who raised the most money overall and the most money online at the Farmington site! We also took home the award for most money raised by a school (great way to end year 5). It was quite an honor.

Please support me as I prepare to dive into the icy cold waters of Winding Trails on January 29, 2012 by making a contribution to Special Olympics Connecticut.
